The K-OS (pronounced the same as "chaos") is an effort to build an operating system that is specialized for typical "end user" application, including a general user desktop environment and perhaps a "console" system. The OS choices will be pragmatic in so far as any choice is biased for optimization of typical desktop type applications. In addition to the usual OS components, the K-OS package will include a desktop environment and optimized multimedia services, including audio and video support. The system libraries will include nice hooks, enabling application developers fast and easy ways to utilize these services.
Can we do it? Is the effort even worth it? Who knows. We don't, but we are two software developers with a keen interest in OS systems and design, so we're willing to give it a go!
